Writing With Light

At midlife, some people buy a red sportscar. I bought a camera, which inaugurated an adventure of classes, learning curves, the film-digital conundrum, and a need to decide which pictures I really want to make.

Photographs have always fascinated me. In some ways photography and history are two sides of the same coin—efforts to understand the reality of moments in the past. What can—and can’t—the image tell us? Photography has also brought me many new friends, and enabled me to appreciate all the arts more fully.

This space will eventually contain my photographic work in color and black & white. Images on this site are mine unless otherwise noted. The two below are vacation shots from Brazil and New Zealand (South Island) respectively. Click here for some links to my photographer friends.
